Yes. She. Was. Alive. Allison, Maya\u2019s sister, would often come in, so Shelly stopped moving. Allison would pamper and soothe Shelly, as if the teddy-bear was in terror. (Shelly was not, by the way.)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This time, though, Maya locked the door. Only she had the key, so Allison <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">couldn\u2019t <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">get into the room this time. Shelly slid down Maya\u2019s bed and walked on the ground, not making a sound. Whenever she stepped on a loose floorboard, however, it would go, \u201cCreak.\u201d Shelly observed a desk. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hmmm<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, she thought. Shelly found some rope on the floor, and, with a swing of the rope, she threw a loop of the rope onto an edge of the desk. Perfect.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shelly grabbed the other end of the rope and swung until she reached the desk\u2019s edge. Climbing onto the surface of the desk, Shelly turned on Maya\u2019s computer. It asked for a password. \u201cPassword!\u201d Shelly exclaimed. \u201cLet\u2019s see\u2026\u201d She typed something in: BuTtoNs3890. It worked, just like every day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shelly went into Google and searched up, \u201cYouTube.com\u201d. A bunch of videos showed up, and she selected a cat video. \u201cMeow! Meow!\u201d the cat in the video screeched. \u201cMeow!\u201d Shelly laughed a little and exited the browser. She heard Maya coming in, so Shelly immediately shut down the computer, climbed down the table, put the rope back in its place, and perched on Maya\u2019s bed. When Maya opened the door, a horrific sight came to view: a new toy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shelly\u2019s stomach hurt. A new toy? What would happen to her? Maya sat on the bed, singing, \u201cHey, Shelly! I have a new playmate for you!\u201d Maya laid the new toy nearby Shelly. \u201cI named her Bun-Bun!\u201d It was a stuffed animal, a rabbit, to be exact. Maya picked up Shelly with one hand and Bun-Bun with another. \u201cHello, Ms. Bun-Bun!\u201d Maya imitated Shelly\u2019s voice. \u201cHiya, Shelly! It\u2019s good to see ya!\u201d Maya then imitated Bun-Bun\u2019s voice, which sounded a bit shrill.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maya said, \u201cWould you like to dance with me?\u201d \u201cYes!\u201d she replied as Ms. Bun-Bun. Maya made Ms. Bun-Bun and Shelly hold hands and spin around together. Maya told her stuffies that she would come back home at 2:50 p.m., and she left the room, locking the door. Shelly wasn\u2019t sure of what was going to happen, but she knew one thing for sure: Maya would start loving Ms. Bun-Bun more than her.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When Maya came back home from school, she started to do her homework after unpacking the heavy load of books in her backpack. She took out her pencil and started writing the answers for her math homework. In the meantime, Shelly was checking for dance routines on Maya\u2019s computer. \u201cHi!\u201d a voice called. Shelly turned around, almost falling from the desk she perched on. It was Ms. Bun-Bun, who appeared to also be alive. \u201cHi\u2026I see you\u2019re a new toy here. Welcome,\u201d Shelly welcomed, but with less enthusiasm and more grumpiness. Bun-Bun waved happily.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shelly turned back to the computer, and Bun-Bun saw this as an unfriendly welcome. \u201cWell,\u201d she shot back. \u201cAt <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">least <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I don\u2019t check my friend\u2019s com<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">puter <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for dumb dance routines!\u201d Shelly asked angrily, \u201cDo you want to say that again? Oh, and do it louder this time.\u201d \u201cMake me!\u201d Bun-Bun glared. Anger buzzed and boiled in Shelly\u2019s head. How could such a beautiful, naive-looking toy be so&#8230;so\u2026.so cruel?? (Of course, Shelly was <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">beautiful, but she wasn\u2019t evil.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maya started to go to her bedroom\u2019s door because of all the noise Bun-Bun and Shelly were making. Their faces shared panicked looks. Shelly took the lead, turning off Maya\u2019s computer and going back to her place on Maya\u2019s bed. She perched next to Bun-Bun. Maya opened the door. \u201cHuh, that\u2019s odd. I remember hearing some noise in here. Oh, well!\u201d She closed the door and locked it again, leaving to do her homework.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shelly tried to keep her cool, even though she was definitely NOT cool!!! \u201cBun-Bun,\u201d she said in her calmest voice. \u201cYou <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">al<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">most got us caught. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Almost<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. But don\u2019t worry! It wasn\u2019t <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">big of a deal!!!\u201d Bun-Bun, having a frown on her face, said, \u201cYou literally said it wasn\u2019t that big of a deal, but you\u2019re freaking out and panting.\u201d Shelly ignored this. She suddenly had an idea. (Insert light bulb on top of head!) Shelly didn\u2019t need to listen to Bun-Bun\u2019s mean comments anymore.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shelly decided that she would run away.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shelly plopped down on the bed and plotted her plan in her head. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First, I\u2019ll find a lot of money to get food and other necessities. Next, I will pack all of that stuff I will need in my bag. I will need a large bag. Oh, that one Maya got me will be <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">perfect<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">! Then I will sneak out of the window and go outside! Finally, I will be free!\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhatcha doin\u2019?\u201d Bun-Bun asked. \u201cIf you think you will be as cute as me, BTW, you so wrong, girl! You so wrong\u2026\u201d She added, \u201cOh, and weird!\u201d Shelly said, \u201cYou thought I was thinking about your beauty, and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019m <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the weird one? Oh, wait a sec, that\u2019s crazy, because you don\u2019t <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> beauty!\u201d Shelly laughed so hard. Bun-Bun scowled. \u201cFine. You\u2019ve had your laughing time. Now stop.\u201d Shelly continued laughing. \u201cI said,\u201d Bun-Bun repeated. \u201cStop. Laughing.\u201d Shelly tried to muffle her laughter, but giggles peeped out of her mouth now and then.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That night, Shelly sneaked to the window and opened it. She had already prepared and found money, food, clothing, water, and more things and put them in a huge bag. It was as blue as a blueberry and had purple and pink dots. Shelly plopped down to the ground and ran away from the house. But in a sneaky way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She asked herself, \u201cWhere am I gonna stay? There\u2019s nothing here but grass and sidewalk pavement and roads. Ugh!\u201d Suddenly, she saw a big mosquito, bloodthirsty, waiting to see if the prey would run or not. \u201cUh,\u201d Shelly stammered. \u201cNice giant, hairy mosquito!\u201d \u201cLook, kid, Imma be honest, lotsa people say that to me, k? Don\u2019t do that to me,\u201d the mosquito said. Shelly jumped back. \u201cAck! How can you t-\u201d \u201cShushhh! She\u2019s watching\u2026\u201d the mosquito replied, adding, \u201cMy name is Maxxxxxxx,\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMaxxxxx?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cNonono!!! That\u2019s not how ya do it! It\u2019s this: Maxxxxxxx.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMaxxxxxxx?\u201d Shelly asked. \u201cYa got it, girl!\u201d Maxxxxxxx said cheerfully. \u201cAnyway, there is a hawk, and she is lurking in the sky.\u201d They heard a hawk cawing. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Caw, caw, caaaaaaaaaaw! <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cW-what was th-that?\u201d Shelly shook nervously, her heart pounding. \u201cThat was the hawk. So, flyyyy!!!!\u201d The mosquito flew away and then, coming back, shouted, \u201cOkay, RUN!!!!\u201d They both speeded down the sidewalk, being careful not to trip over any rocks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ah, they were safe! Away from the hawk! \u201cWhat is this place?\u201d Shelly and Maxxxxxxx had arrived at a cafe, Shelly knowing this would be a great place to stay. Shelly tried to open the door, but, unfortunately, it was locked. \u201cWell,\u201d Shelly said. \u201cLooks like we will have to sleep outside tonight.\u201d Shelly laid down on a patch of grass, covered in the blanket she brought. Maxxxxxxx crept under the blanket and tucked himself in, falling asleep.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The next morning, Shelly woke up early, and then she arosed Maxxxxxxx. Shelly told Maxxxxxxx that since the cafe was open, they could stay there. Maxxxxxxx agreed to go in. \u201cBut kid, you don\u2019t understand. Some people, they want to kill us,\u201d Maxxxxxxx said. \u201cI will get smashed.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cDon\u2019t worry, I won\u2019t let that happen,\u201d Shelly replied, sounding more confident than she really was. They went inside the cafe, and Shelly stole a scone secretly. She nibbled on it. Orange. Nice. \u201cYou took the food??\u201d Maxxxxxxx asked. \u201cYeah! We have to survive and get food <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">some<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">how!!\u201d Shelly scowled. She stole a cupcake from one customer and took a slice of cake from another one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maxxxxxxx\u2019s feelings changed from madness to excitement. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Well<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, he thought. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If this is what it\u2019s like to be a runaway, I\u2019m definitely gonna like this! <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He devoured a bite of the slice. \u201cMmmmm!!! It\u2019s so delicious! I don\u2019t remember having a decent meal like this since I was very young,\u201d Maxxxxxxx said. \u201cWhy?\u201d Shelly asked.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBecause I\u2019m an orphan. That\u2019s why.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The six words Maxxxxxxx had just said made Shelly\u2019s heart sink. She never knew that he was an orphan without parents of his own. Taking care of himself by himself, with no support whatsoever, must have been very hard for him. They both stayed quiet for a long time and continued devouring their food.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shelly broke the silence after they left the cafe. \u201cYou won\u2019t be lonely anymore. You have me.\u201d And she hugged the mosquito gently, being careful not to crush him. Maxxxxxxx asked, \u201c Where are your parents?\u201d \u201cI don\u2019t have parents, but I have an owner,\u201d Shelly told Maxxxxxxx. \u201cAnd I&#8230;I left home.\u201d \u201cSHELLY!!!! <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why would you do such a thing? You have a perfect life-<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d \u201cIt is because of Bun-Bun!\u201d Shelly blurted out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWho\u2019s Bun-Bun?\u201d Maxxxxxxx questioned. \u201cShe was the new toy at my home. I felt that I was going to become unappreciated soon.\u201d Shelly glanced at the mosquito, who said, \u201cWhere\u2019d you get that idea from?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cFrom a book I read. A girl named Claudia felt unappreciated and ran away from home and went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.\u201d Shelly looked at a tree trunk nearby. \u201cOh no,\u201d she whispered. \u201cWhat?\u201d Maxxxxxxx asked, but he soon found out as he followed Shelly\u2019s gaze. There were posters of Shelly saying, \u201cMissing Toy!\u201d and \u201cPlease find her!\u201d \u201cThat\u2019s not good, is it?\u201d Maxxxxxxx asked. \u201cIt is not!!! Like, duh?\u201d Shelly replied.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMaxxxxxxx,\u201d Shelly said. \u201cYou <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">do <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">realize that people could be looking for me, and then they could take me home, right?\u201d \u201cBut what\u2019s so bad about that?\u201d Maxxxxxxx asked, confused. \u201cWhat is bad about it is that they will take me back, but I will <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NEVER <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">go back!! Who knows? A few months later, I might end up in the trash bin, or worse\u2026\u201d Shelly paused. \u201cI could be shredded by that trash thingie! The one that shreds and crushes trash?&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cShelly, don\u2019t you realize how lucky you are to have an owner who cares about you? I mean, if she doesn\u2019t find you&#8230;she might stop looking for you and then play with Bun-Bun only,\u201d Maxxxxxxx lectured deeply. Shelly thought for a moment, and then decided, \u201cI don\u2019t know&#8230;let\u2019s just stay here. For now, though. Just until I hav-ACK!\u201d Shelly shrieked when a newspaper flew onto her, causing her to fall. Shelly managed to get up and grab the newspaper.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHold on\u2026\u201d Shelly peered closely. \u201cWhat\u2019s this?\u201d Here is what the newspaper said:<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><b><i>Exclusive News!!!! There\u2019s a beautiful painting at the Hawk Museum of Creation!!!<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><b><i>Scientists and experts have recently discovered an old-or new-work of art. \u201cI believe that it is the work of Leonardo da Vinci, but who knows? I mean, it\u2019s an idea\u2026.\u201d says expert Sim\u00f2ne Zigouch\u00ed. \u201cWe have GOT to find out what this is and who painted it!\u201d <\/i><\/b><b><i>This was sold by the old man, Mr. Johnwire, at an auction. He sold it for $433 only! He now lives on Selena Street, Magville. If it was painted in the Italian Renaissance by Leonardo da Vinci, it would have been a great bargain!<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><i>All the experts know is that it was painted during the Italian Renaissance and that it was possibly painted by Leonardo da Vinci, the famous painter who made the Mona Lisa. It is a picture of a lamb laying down on the grass. Well, that\u2019s all for this article folks!!! Now, we will go over to Jeff for the weather. Jeff, what will the weather be like? Turn the page to find out!\u00a0<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMaxxxxxxx, I know what to do! Maya, my owner, wants a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">difference <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in me! I can feel it!\u201d Shelly exclaimed joyfully. \u201cUhhh, I think you are jumping to conclusions here,\u201d Maxxxxxxx answered. \u201cThis is it!\u201d Shelly shouts. \u201cWe have gotta take a train or bus. Hawk Museum of Creation, here we come!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They decided to take a bus to the museum. Shelly and the mosquito crept onto the bus sneakily.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shelly and Maxxxxxxx were not seen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In her gut, Shelly knew this was the right bus. The one that would take them to Hawk Museum of Creation. She just knew it!!! Somehow. But how did that matter, anyway?? They finally reached the museum, and Shelly was done dealing with Maxxxxxxx the mosquito, who would not stop asking, \u201cAre we there yet? Are we there yet?\u201d in an annoying way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They carefully departed the bus and let the people open the doors, stepping inside the museum. \u201cWooooooow!!!\u201d Shelly and Maxxxxxxx exclaimed. The museum looked so beautiful and elegant, with its Oriental rugs, ancient statues, paintings, jewelry&#8230;oh! The list of delightful things in the museum could run on and on and on and on and on and on-alright, enough on\u2019s-for days!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shelly said, \u201cWe need to find that painting. Then we will have to travel to that guy\u2019s place mentioned in the newspaper.\u201d She froze. Why? Because a young child spotted her, picking her up. Maxxxxxxx acted quickly, biting the child\u2019s hand. \u201cOwwwwwwwwieeeeeee!!!!! Mommmmmyyyy!! A mosquito bit me!\u201d Shelly fell and ran upstairs with Maxxxxxxx to find the painting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They found it upstairs. It was right there. \u201cHuh, that looks like a cool painting,\u201d Shelly said. \u201cCome on, now! Let\u2019s go!\u201d They raced down the stairs-Shelly running and Maxxxxxxx flying- until they reached the doors. They exited and caught a taxi. Someone was going to board it. \u201cCome on! I hope they don\u2019t notice you\u2026\u201d Shelly eagerly climbed in with Maxxxxxxx, and they started their trip to Mr. Johnwire&#8230;hopefully.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Well, at least the destination was near Mr. Johnwire\u2019s house. Maxxxxxxx and Shelly knocked on the door. No one answered, so they tried to open the door. The door creaked open, and the group scurried to Mr. Johnwire\u2019s office. \u201cHello. You\u2019re the missing toy, and you are a mosquito, right?\u201d Mr. Johnwire asked. \u201cYes, we are,\u201d Maxxxxxxx and Shelly replied. Somehow, Mr. Johnwire understood their language.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cPlease tell us if Leonardo da Vinci or someone else painted the painting!!! The one you sold recently?\u201d Shelly pleaded. \u201cI can help! Do not tell this secret, but&#8230;I painted that,\u201d Mr. Johnwire said. \u201cWait. What??\u201d Shelly and Maxxxxxxx exchanged a surprised look. \u201cYes, you see, I missed my wife. She passed away, and I had no family. So I decided to paint this to show that she was like a beautiful lamb: lovable, kind, and peaceful,\u201d Mr. J. explained.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shelly realized how much Maya missed her:a lot. More than the span of the universe. \u201cThe painting reminds me of her. And also that love is unbreakable. No matter where you are, love can\u2019t break. It counts inside,\u201d Mr. Johnwire continued. \u201cSo&#8230;this is good-bye, Maxxxxxxx? I mean, I completed the mission,\u201d Shelly said sadly. \u201cYes. I hope we meet again,\u201d Maxxxxxxx started to cry a bit. Shelly hugged him tightly, but not too much to crush him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mr. Johnwire said, \u201cOh, no! I am sending Maxxxxxxx to a wildlife care zone! Near your home, it is the best one there is in your town!\u201d Shelly and Maxxxxxxx said thank you and departed. They boarded a bus and then walked all the way to Maya\u2019s house. \u201cGoodbye, for now,\u201d Shelly said, and they waved goodbye. Shelly tried to reach the doorbell and rang it. She became stiff.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maya came out the front door, yelling, \u201cMom!!!! Shelly is back!\u201d She took Shelly in her arms and put the teddy bear inside her room. Shelly thought a lot about love, Maxxxxxxx, and the words Mr. Johnwire said: \u201cThe painting reminds me of her. And also that love is unbreakable. No matter where you are, love can\u2019t break.
