Please pass these sheets to your classmates.\u201d Mrs. Wiker jots something down on her notebook paper and pins it to the bulletin board. Clara hands everyone the sheets Mrs. Wiker handed her.\u00a0 I look at the sheet of paper, and it says, \u201cClass field trip to a campsite!\u201d Sounds like fun! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Every year, the school always makes sure our class field trip is fun and educational. I wonder what we can learn from a campsite. Not much, really, except the concept of roasting marshmallows to the perfect frequency. Or making a fire with two thick twigs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A bell rings, and soon, class is dismissed. I get on the bus with Riley. \u201cSo, Riley, are you excited for our field trip?\u201d I ask. \u201cI don\u2019t know what it is!\u201d Riley says. \u201cWell, you should, because it says \u201cCampsite\u201d on the paper!\u201d I reply, holding it up. \u201cOhhh, \u2018kay!\u201d Riley says. \u201cDo you want to do your homework with me?\u201d I ask. \u201cOh, yes!\u201d Riley says.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A voice says, \u201cDouble yes!\u201d \u201cHuh?\u201d I say, confused. \u201cIt\u2019s me, Sophie! The new kid?\u201d she asks. \u201cOh, yeah! You came yesterday, right?\u201d Riley recalls. \u201cYep! I moved here recently. That\u2019s why I\u2019m here!\u201d Sophie answers. \u201cAnyways, I couldn\u2019t help but hear that you were having a playdate! I wanted to join! Would you allow me to join you?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOf course!\u201d I reply. \u201cAlso, you can bring some of your friends!\u201d Sophie looks sad. \u201cI don\u2019t have any in this new town.\u201d \u201cWell, we can be your friends! Besties, even!\u201d Riley breaks in. The bus stops, and Sophie, Riley, and I go into my house. \u201cSo, this is your house? I love it!!!\u201d Sophie says with expression and excitement. \u201cMine is still packed with boxes. It\u2019s a little cramped, but we have adjusted!\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Riley suggests that first we do their math homework together. We all agree, and after finishing our math homework, we do the reading homework. \u201cNow,\u201d I say. \u201cUm, let\u2019s tell each other our favorite hobbies and we can decide what to do next together.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI like to bake and cook!\u201d we say. \u201cOkay, so then we can bake something?\u201d Riley asks. \u201cOh, it\u2019s gonna be my brother\u2019s birthday tomorrow! Let\u2019s make a cake for him!\u201d Sophie suggests. \u201cWhat\u2019s his favorite flavor?\u201d I ask. \u201cChocolate, plain as day,\u201d Sophie says, smiling.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I grab a large bowl, and we put our ingredients, including cocoa powder, into it. I mix it together, and it forms one delicious-smelling chocolate cake batter. Then Sophie pours it into a bundt pan used for making bundt cake and puts it in the oven. Meanwhile, Riley makes chocolate ganache to drizzle on top. Once the cake is done (I stick a toothpick in the cake, and it comes out clean, which means that your cake is done.), Riley takes the cake out of the pan and sets it on the cooling rack. Once the cake cools, Sophie drizzles the chocolate ganache onto the cake.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sophie takes a spoonful of the cake and pops it into her mouth. \u201cMmm!!!\u201d Sophie says delightfully. \u201cWe did a great job!\u201d Riley and I nod in agreement. \u201cI will bring it to your house tomorrow as a surprise in a box,\u201d I say, placing the cake in a box and putting it in the refrigerator. Sophie gets out her sleeping bag and goes into my room. Riley and I follow. We get ready for bed, and then we go to sleep. (We were too excited to eat with my family!!!)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The next day, my alarm goes off. I turn it off after waking up. Riley and Sophie have aroused, too. We go downstairs to eat breakfast: pancakes with maple syrup. Sophie, Riley, and I catch the bus in time, sitting together. When the bus stops, Sophie, Riley, other students, and I get off the bus and into the school.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We do reading, math, social studies, have lunch, French, English, and writer\u2019s workshop. After school, the bus stops at my house, and I get off of it. I rush inside my home to grab the chocolate cake. I run over to Sophie\u2019s house. I see the bus dropping Sophie off at her house. I greet her, and we walk inside. \u201cHappy Birthday!\u201d we say to Sophie\u2019s brother. \u201cOoh, what is that?\u201d he asks. \u201cShh, it\u2019s a surprise!\u201d Sophie says excitedly. Sophie\u2019s brother opens the package up to find a chocolate cake.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMy favorite!\u201d he exclaims. \u201cThank you!\u201d \u201cYou\u2019re welcome,\u201d Sophie and I say. Suddenly, Riley rushes inside. \u201cSorry-pant-am-pant-I-pant-late?\u201d \u201cNope, not at all! We were just about to eat the chocolate cake!\u201d I explain. \u201cOh, okay! That\u2019s good!\u201d she replies. Riley, Sophie, her brother, and I all feast on the cake, and then Sophie\u2019s mom and dad come in, taking two more slices. There\u2019s no cake left!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I say goodbye since I have to go to my house to do my homework. I come back home and finish my homework. I ask my mom if she could sign the field trip sheet. \u201cA campsite? Sure!\u201d She signs it immediately. I take it and place it in my backpack. I have dinner after a few hours of reading and studying, and I get ready for bed. I brush my teeth, put on my PJ\u2019s, and go to bed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I wake up the next morning with an excited attitude. I just can\u2019t wait for our field trip today! It\u2019s gonna be at 10:00 a.m. Plus, the test we have today is gonna be canceled!!! I rush downstairs and devour my breakfast. \u201cYou\u2019re excited for the field trip?\u201d Mom asks. \u201cYessss!!!\u201d I say. \u201cWe\u2019re going to a campsite. I think so!\u201d I catch the bus and sit down with Riley and Sophie.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We talk about roasting marshmallows over the campfire and sleeping in a tent. We arrive at school and get into the building. Mrs. Wiker says that we\u2019re going to learn about rocks, twigs, plants, and other things at the campsite. She also talks about minerals, and at 9:55, we board the bus. It\u2019s always good to be early.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At 10:00, the bus makes a \u201cVROOM!\u201d sound, and we\u2019re off! The driver turns left.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then right.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then left again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then right once more.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then up a highway.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And lastly, we make a final left. We\u2019re at the campsite!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The students gaze at the campsite. There are many children and counselors there. I peer out the window and see my friend who moved last year, Ju! I wave to her, but she doesn\u2019t see me. The bus halts, and we all jump off it, rushing into the campsite.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWelcome, campers and new ones!\u201d a counselor says. \u201cAaaand teachers!\u201d another one adds. \u201cTo this delightful camp where you and your students will have the best time of your life!\u201d a third counselor says excitedly. It\u2019s kinda like those ads. One person says a part of the line. Next, another person says something, and the third person finishes it off with the most lines!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We all start setting up our tents after being given a tutorial on how to do the process. I finish first because my family and I have always camped during summer break. I\u2019m pretty much a natural now! \u201cDone!\u201d I say, putting down my hammer. \u201cAlready?\u201d someone asks. \u201cDidja cheat?\u201d another asks skeptically. \u201cNo, I always put a heart pillow inside my tent, so yeah!\u201d I reply. \u201cI have been camping a lot of times, just sayin\u2019.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Next, Riley finishes. Then Sophie. The last one to finish is a red-haired boy. He looks skinny and has freckles and a blue T-Shirt. \u201cAlright, now let\u2019s take a hike in the woods, you\u2019ll learn how to start a fire with some logs, lint, and twigs, roasting marshmallows to the perfect frequency, we\u2019ll tell you a story, and you\u2019ll go to sleep in your nice and cozy tents! We\u2019re assigning you into groups-five in each group!\u201d a counselor with blonde hair says, smiling brightly.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We bring our hiking sticks into the woods and hike, following two counselors. After a while, one counselor says, \u201cNow, you must pair up with four other people! Five in each group, remember that!\u201d I get paired up with a black-haired girl, Sophie, Riley, and Ju! \u201cHi, my name is Maya!\u201d the black-haired girl says. \u201cHey, Ju!\u201d I exclaim. \u201cHi!\u201d she replies. \u201cWho\u2019s that?\u201d Sophie and Riley ask.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMy old friend, Ju! She used to go to this school with me, but she moved away.\u201d I explain. \u201cOh, Ju? From math class? Ohhhhh!!! That sounded familiar!\u201d Riley says. A counselor teaches us about plants, leaves, and other things that we need to know-no, HAVE to know-to survive in the woods and not get eaten or injured or anything like that. I still get a bit nervous. I always went with my older sister in the woods. Never alone.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ju hears something. At least she claims to have heard something. I then see something moving. Well, I think something did. I\u2019m not sure. I soon see a dragon flying in the sky. A purple powder explodes, and suddenly, we fall asleep. I take my last few seconds to send an SOS to the camp.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two hours later, I wake up. \u201cHi!\u201d I say. I see that there\u2019s purple powder on my clothes. \u201cMust have been poppy powder or something else\u2026\u201d a nurse says. I see Sophie, Ju, Maya, and Riley in their sleeping bags. \u201cWe thought that you didn\u2019t make it after you didn\u2019t come back. We got Carol\u2019s SOS, however. And we immediately began searching for you all. You were lying on the ground when we arrived at your location.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The nurses let us sleep, and the next morning, we wake up, eat breakfast at the camp, and say goodbye to everyone. \u201cBye, Ju! And bye, Maya! Let\u2019s video chat!\u201d I say as I board the bus. I gotta say that our trip was actually good! It taught us something: never, EVER go to Evergreen Camp AGAIN.
