Do you love fairy tales? Then this is the right book for you.

The Princess and the Goblin is about an eight-year-old princess who lives in a castle and has a lonely life. Her father is the king, and she only has her nursemaid to comfort her. Her mother is dead. The princess discovers an old lady upstairs who is her great-great grandmother. The next day, the princess, Irene, and her nurse go outside. They are chased by goblins, underground inhabitants, and Irene becomes friends with a miner boy, Curdie. Curdie overhears the goblins’ plans to terrorize the mines and kidnap the princess.

While Curdie explores the goblin’s place, he is discovered and stamps on everyone’s feet. The goblins imprison him. Princess Irene, who has a magical thread given to her by her great-great grandmother, finds Curdie and frees him. Curdie learns that the goblins will dig holes to the king’s castle to abduct Irene and marry her to the goblin prince, Harelip. Will there be a happy ending?

I like this book. I would give it 3/5, though, since I don’t really like goblins. But, other than that, the book was great. I recommend it to people 10 and up. The author is George Macdonald, and this book is a novel. What are you waiting for?
