Daal is a staple food for Gujarati and can be enjoyed with steamed rice or roti.  Gujarati Tuvar Daal is sweet, spicy, and tangy lentil soup made from tuvar daal, garam masala, and the sweetness of brown sugar.  It uses tuval daal, which is boiled with tomatoes, turmeric powder, garam masala, salt, and brown sugar.  Daal & rice is the most comforting Gujarati food in India. They are also known as Dal Bhat.
