Flavorful Navratna Dal Made by Jaimi!!!

Navratna is a Sanskrit word that means nine gems.  Navratna dal is made from a mixture of nine lentils and legumes.  It is very healthy and full of nutrients.  It can be served as dinner or lunch with steamed rice.

Ingredients are Rajma/Kidney beans, White Chickpeas, Black Chickpeas, Black-eyed Peas/Lobhia, Dried Green Peas, Moong Dal/Green gram, Urad Dal/white lentil, Chana Dal/Split Chickpeas, Toovar Dal/split pigeon peas, Sunflower Oil, Tomatoes, Garam Masala, Salt to taste, Cumin Seeds, Turmeric Powder, and Brown Sugar.

Instructions

  1. Soak lentils and legumes in water overnight
  2. Pressure-cook lentils with water till they are fully cooked
  3. Chop Tomatoes
  4. Add oil to a pot, then add cumin seeds
  5. Sauté it for a few seconds, and then add the chopped tomatoes
  6. Sauté it for a few minutes till tomatoes turn mushy
  7. Add garam masala, turmeric powder, and salt and mix it
  8. Add lentils, salt to taste, and brown sugar, and mix it well
  9. Close the lid and let it simmer
  10. Garnish chopped coriander before serving
