Baked Savory Shakarpara Made by Jaimi!!!

Ingredients to make Shakarpara are Whole Wheat Flour, Sunflower Oil, Turmeric Powder, Carom Seeds, Cumin Seeds, Salt, Chilli Powder, and Brown Sugar.

Baked Savory Shakarpara is a popular Gujarati snack.  The dough for savory is made of flour, different spices, and combination of carom and cumin seeds.  Traditionally, savory shakarpara are deep fried, instead I have baked them.  They are perfect bite-size healthy snack and can be made all year around for snacking.  

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup Whole Wheat Flour
  2. 1/2 TSP Salt
  3. 1 TSP Brown Sugar
  4. 1/2 TSP Chilli Powder
  5. 1/2 TSP Carom Seeds
  6. 1/2 TSP Cumin Seeds
  7. water as required
  8. 2 TBSP Sunflower Oil

Instructions

  1. In a blow, mix whole wheat flour, turmeric powder, brown sugar, salt, chilli powder, carom seeds, and cumin seeds.
  2. Add oil and mix it.
  3. Then start kneading the dough.
  4. Add water as required to make a soft and smooth dough. 
  5. Cover the dough with a paper towel and let it rest for about 30 minutes.
  6. Roll the dough into a thin sheet. Prick on the sheet using a fork.  
  7. Cut the sheet in your desired shape using a cookie cutter.
  8. Place it on the baking sheet and bake it at 375°F until golden brown on both sides.
  9. Once baked, let it cool completely.
