Chapter 1
“Oh please, can we go to the bakery, Ms. Fields?” I plead. Ms. Fields says in her That’s-final-voice, “We are going to go there. Now stop whining!” I let out a big whoop because I can’t contain my excitement!
“Now, get your shoes,” Ms. Fields commands. “And take some cash with you!” “Yes, Ms. Fields,” I sigh. I wish I had a kind, nice nanny. Ms. Fields, however, is definitely NOT nice! For one, she doesn’t pick me up after school, so I have to take cash and ride the bus on school days. For two, Ms. Fields just watches TV, and when Mom and Dad come home from work, Ms. Fields pretends that she’s fixing my dinner. For three, which is last, she doesn’t really like me; she just loves to get paid! Well, at least she’s bringing me to the bakery, and that’s something.
………..
Ms. Fields tells me, “Into the car, Mary!” “Fine,” I grumble and step in the front seat of the car. However, she pulls me out and shoves me into the very back of the car. “Ms. Fields, could I-” She doesn’t let me finish. “When you’re in my car, you go to the very back,” Ms. Fields interrupts. And with that, she steps on the pedal and drives me to the bakery. It is a very bumpy ride.
……………
“Here we are!” Ms. Fields announces. I groan as I step out. My mind is spinning, and I get a sensation of vertigo. “Don’t pout, Mary!” she says sternly. We enter the bakery, and the man at the counter asks, “How may I help you?” He looks at me and questions, “Would you like to explore the kitchen?”
“I’d love to!” I exclaim. He smiles and opens the door to the kitchen. “Right this way!” I jump in and-whoa! “What’s haaaaapenniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing???” I scream, and I land on something soft, creamy, and fluffy. Then, everything goes black…
Chapter 2
“Whoa! Golly, is she okay?” I hear. “Omigosh, that was scary!” another voice says. My eyes blink open, and I see some cupcakes in front of me. “Where am I?” My voice quivers when I say this. “You are OBVIOUSLY in the realm of cupcakes! It’s called Cupcakia! Duh!” a short cupcake with blue icing explains.
I sniff the air. The atmosphere…it’s so colorful! There are puffy clouds, and I sense that they’re made of marshmallows. “This is just insane! One second I was in a bakery, and now I’m in this magic cupcake land called Cupkrania!” I shout. “It’s Cupcakia, not Cupkrania!” the short cupcake answers. “Whatever!” I reply forcefully.
“No one is supposed to be here!” a strawberry cupcake says. “Like, no humans allowed!” “So we has to put you in the dungeons!” someone else answers. “It’s have, not has!” I correct his grammar mistake. Excuse me, but I like to correct grammar mistakes. In fact, I do it all the time out of habit. Still, in the dungeon???
…………………
The cupcakes throw me into a dungeon made of steel. I thought it was made out of candy! Then I could easily nibble my way out. Then again, I would escape, and they’re probably not that dull. The cupcakes leave me, alone in the dungeon. I shiver when I think of the words “dungeon” and “prisoner”. What did I do to make this happen?!
…………..
I must have fallen asleep, because when I wake up, I see a cracker. “Hello!” he whispers. “Who are you?” I ask. The cracker takes out a key and opens the door to my dungeon. “I’m here to save you! Come!” he whispers. The cracker takes my hand, and suddenly, I’m teleported to a castle…made out of crackers? “We are in Cracker Land!” the cracker says. “You haven’t stated your name yet!” I reply. He tells me his name is Mike. “And yours?” Mike questions.
“I’m Mary. Mary Cupckins,” I state.
“Oh, Mary Cupckins, eh?” Mike asks.
“Yep!” I reply.
“Cute name!”
“Thank you!”
Chapter 3
I get a feeling of dishonesty. I don’t really trust this guy, Mike. I see a sign that says, Wanted: the Crackers. I get a surge of anxiety and even come up with the nerve to ask, “Are you a criminal?”
He answers, “I am, yes. I kidnapped you because you are the key to defeat the cupcakes once and for all!” “Why on Earth would you do that? Why me?” I question curiously. Mike doesn’t reply. He rushes to show me all of the cool gadgets and technology in Cracker Land. “Do you know how to build?” “Yes, I do!” I answer, but I quickly zip my mouth. Mike shoves me into a room with lots of gears and gizmos. “You are to make a powerful cannon so we can win this belligerent war!” Mike shouts. “Shall you not, you will perish in here!” I quickly get to work and connect a bunch of pieces and materials. When Mike is gone, I rush to the door and open it. Wow, he’s that drab.
I tip-toe out of the room and crawl out of the castle. That was close!
Chapter 4
I see a nearby colorful stick. I pick it up and think, Maybe this thingy will teleport me to Cupcakia! I say, “Bring me to Cupcakia!” I suddenly land in the meadows of Cupcakia. “Guys!” I scream. “Listen, you’re in danger! The crackers are going to destroy you!” The cupcakes I see are, thankfully, news reporters. “Look, I know it’s hard to trust me, but-” One interrupts and says, “No, it’s fine! Thanks for alerting us! We’ll tell the whole village to be prepared!” Sparkles surround my body, and suddenly, I appear in the bakery again. The man behind the counter winks and asks, “Did you finish your quest?” I nod. Yes, I did.
