Out of my Mind Book Review by Kruti!!!

Do you need a new book to read? Are you interested in stories that make your heart cry? Then this book has all of those qualities and will fulfill your needs.

Out of my Mind is a book about a girl named Melody Brooks, who has a photographic memory. Her mind is like a camera that snaps pictures of things, words, and even music. But the thing is, there’s no delete button to erase anything. Melody is almost eleven years old and smart. She has an intelligent and remarkable brain with many thoughts inside of it. Her doctors and teachers don’t think so, though. She can’t say anything about this, however, as Melody Brooks can’t talk, write, speak, move around on her two legs, and use her hand, except for her big thumb.

Mrs. V., Melody’s babysitter and helper at home, is amazing and very kind to her. Since Melody can only use a board that has a limited amount of words and point to them, Mrs. V. helps by teaching her new words and facts. Everything changes for her, however, when she gets a new baby sister, Penny. She is normal and a little annoying to Melody sometimes. Things also change at fifth grade in school when Melody can finally communicate without her board. No, not with her mouth, but with a device that helps her answer questions at school. The question is, is anyone around her ready to hear it?

This book was written by the author, Shannon M. Draper. Her book is similar to another book I read called Fish in a Tree. These books are related to each other because the girls in both books have some kind of disease/disability. Also, they are both smart and kind. I suggest that you check this book out from the library right away!
