Gujarati Tam Tam Made by Jaimi!!!

Tam Tam is one of the most popular and crunchy Gujarati snacks in India.  This delicious deep-fried snack is made from urad dal, gram flour, and everyday basic spices.  Tam Tam has a sweet and spicy flavor and can be served any time of the day as a snack.

Ingredients to make Tam Tam are 2 cups gram flour, 1/2 cup urad dal flour, 1 TSP turmeric powder, 3 TBSP Kashmiri red chilli powder, 3 TBSP powdered sugar, 3 TBSP sunflower oil, salt to taste, canola oil for deep frying, juice of 2 limes, and water as needed.

Instructions

  1. Mix oil and water together in a mixing bowl and whisk until the color fades to white color liquid.
  2. Add lime juice, salt, sugar, and spices.  Mix until all the ingredients are well combined.
  3. Then add urad dal flour and gram flour to the mixture.  Add water as required to knead the dough.
  4. Knead the dough until smooth and with no stickiness.  Add 1 to 2 TBSP oil if required.
  5. Heat oil in a kadai or a pan.  Use a sev press machine with a star mesh to drop the tam tam into the oil.  Keep the flame low while you are using the sev press.  Remove the sev press and fry the tam tam on low to medium flame.
  6. Fry tam tam until turn they brown.  Remove it on the paper towel to drain the oil.
