The Fourteenth Goldfish is a book about a girl named Ellie. Her mom and dad are divorced and both have jobs that have to do with acting. One day, a strange boy arrives. He looks oddly familiar. This scruffy-looking boy is Ellie’s grandfather! Ellie’s grandfather is a scientist. He has found the cure for aging—the way to become young again!

Ellie’s grandfather, whose name is Melvin, is staying at Ellie’s house. Ellie’s mom and Ellie tell people who ask about Melvin that he is just a cousin who came to visit. Melvin starts to go to Ellie’s school as well. Ellie must feel great about having her famous scientific grandfather at school and home, right? Well, yeah! Melvin and Ellie meet a goth boy named Raj and start becoming his friend as well at school.

Melvin teaches Ellie about science and scientists. They spend time together and laugh. Ellie and Melvin are best friends. Melvin is like Ellie’s fourteenth goldfish. That’s why the book is called The Fourteenth Goldfish. Just like Ellie’s previous goldfish, Ellie’s grandfather teaches her about life, science, cooking, and more. The fish teach Ellie that there’s not a happy ending; there’s a happy beginning.

This is an excellent book! I feel like this one is a warm and heartfelt book. I recommend this book to people ages 9 and above. (Yes, adults can read it too! Also, I advise you to read this book while drinking hot cocoa! It will “warm your heart,” if you know what I mean!) You should totally read this book!!! So what are you waiting for?! Go ahead and read The Fourteenth Goldfish!!!
