Do you like books? Do you love adventure? Then this is the right book for you!
Hatchet is a book about a boy who is visiting his father. The airplane’s pilot, however, gets a sudden heart attack. The boy, Brian, takes over the wheel and sends transmit messages to the radio. He doesn’t know where he’s going, though. He flies randomly in the air. The airplane starts to run out of fuel, so he crashes it into a forest. His target is land the plane onto the edge of a lake, but it lands in the lake. The plane sinks, but Brian gets out of the plane in time. The pilot sinks along with the plane, unfortunately.
Brian now has to face many challenges while in the forest. He has to survive until someone comes to get him. He is hopeful on the first day. Brian thinks that someone should rescue him in a day or two. But after a few more days, a rescue team doesn’t come. Brian loses hope, but he knows he has to survive. He doesn’t let the Secret about his parents’ divorce bother him while in the forest.
He starts to recollect memories about movies he watched when people survived in deserted areas. Brian gathers berries and cherries. Not that tasty, but better than nothing. He also hunts for food. Brian drinks from the lake water, which I think is very unhealthy. (And, yes, he throws up.) As Brian survives in the Canadian woods, he grows close to nature. The obstacles in the woods help him face his fears and become a stronger person-emotionally and physically.
I love this book! I would give it a rating of 4 stars because it mostly talks about surviving. I would probably like a few more topics and exciting and mysterious things, like Brian finds a picture of some random person. But overall, it’s a good story! I would recommend it to people who want to learn survival skills and fans of adventure. This book features a summary of the book itself as well so you can understand what the book is about in a brief way. It even has activities you can do during the summer. So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and read Hatchet!!!
