Empow”HER” Girl Scout Session 6 Summary by Kruti!!!

Today, I had my sixth and last session with Girl Scouts. I was curious to learn about middle school and the vice principal of the middle school. She spoke today, and her name is Mrs. Smith.

First, I walked in and waited for the session to start. Instead of sitting on the left side, I sat on the right side of the room since today was the last day of the sessions. Next, Josephine introduced herself to the new people, though I didn’t think there would be people joining just for the last session. She asked questions then to the speaker, who was Mrs. Smith, the vice principal of a local middle school.

The vice principal first talked about her life and job and how stressful it was to have four children and a full-time job at school. She was a bit stressed out since she had a life at home as well as this job. Also, the fact that she saw students who got into trouble a lot was another stressful thing. She had to talk to them as well, which was hard and seems tough for someone to do. Next, Mrs. Smith talked about study tips for a test.

With a bit background information from Josephine, she talked a bit more about flash cards. They said that when your test is announced on Monday, and you have until Friday to study for it, on Monday, you should try to read the notes and review them. The next day, you should make flash cards. Then, on the third day, if you have to go anywhere, you can just study the flashcards on the way there and back home. The fourth day, you can ask a family member or friend to quiz you. And lastly, when Friday comes, you’ll be ready. But you should try to review the flash cards on the bus or when you have free time.

The vice principal left talking about stressful things to Josephine’s family friend, who is a yoga specialist. The family friend talked about stress and some methods of calming down before a test or another stressful thing about school. For example, if you get a bad grade on your test and you have to tell you parents, it’s very worrisome. The yoga person made us do yoga poses and helped us relax our minds. We ended the session with a group picture and a raffle. I won the small prize of the raffle for the last time.

I’m glad I got to be a part of this group of Empow”HER” sessions. It was enjoyable to be able to learn from hearing other people’s experiences and their jobs. Plus, I loved the activities and the raffles. I’m sad that it’s ending, but I am delighted that I got to experience this.
