“From the Desk of Zoe Washington” Book Review by Kruti!!!

Hello! Do you want to read a book that’s interesting? Do you want a new read because you’re bored? Look no further than this book, then. Stay tuned, and I will tell you about it.

From the Desk of Zoe Washington is a book about a girl named Zoe. Her dad went to prison when she was young, but she doesn’t know why. She only knows that he killed someone, but why would he do that. Now, Zoe is 12 years old, and she receives a letter from Marcus, her father. Zoe can’t believe that her dad finally writes to her after all of these years.

Zoe decides she has to keep this a secret from her mom since she might throw out the letter and never allow her to write to Marcus again. So Zoe secretly mails it one day, but Grandma notices the letter that Marcus sent. Zoe thinks that she picked it up in time, but she didn’t. Grandma talks to Zoe about the letter from Marcus, and she agrees not to tell Zoe’s parents, her mom and stepdad.

Meanwhile, Zoe starts her internship at her mom’s friend’s bakery. She doesn’t get to do much baking, though. Instead, she just handles the supplies. But Zoe’s willing to do it to be able to audition for a part in the Food Network show, Kids Baking Championship. They are holding auditions for kids, and she wants to be in the show, just like her idol, Ruby. Ruby was also in the Kids Baking Championship and even got herself featured in a cookbook for winning!

Zoe also writes to Marcus, but she really wants to see him in person. Zoe wants to be able to hang out with him in real life. So she decides to find out whether she can do anything or not. But the release of Marcus would be in another 15 years about. It’s a long time to wait, and Zoe isn’t a patient girl. She does more research and finds out that there’s an organization that helps innocent people break out of jail.

The reason why Zoe tries to find out about this is because Marcus said that he is innocent and that he wouldn’t lie to her. But is that really true? Or is it just a lie? Zoe catches Trevor peeking at her research in the library. So they start investigating together, even though Zoe is still very mad at Trevor. She believes that Trevor has been not talking to her and even agreed with someone saying she was annoying.

But they talk it over, and now they’re sort of friends again. Zoe and Trevor find out about Marcus’s arrestment and discover that he must be innocent. So they decide to find his alibi witness that he said he had.

Zoe and Trevor email different Susan Thomas’s, Marcus’s alibi witness. They find this out when Zoe asks Marcus in a letter. The first Susan Thomas they ask isn’t the alibi witness since she didn’t ever have a garage sale that Marcus went to the day of the crime.

So Zoe and Trevor look for more specific results, and they find a university teacher who has the name of Susan Thomas! But she’s all the way in a university that takes 3 hours to get to. So they decide to come up with a plan that’s not so honest. Zoe and Trevor lie to their parents and say they are going to the movies, but they go to the university Susan Thomas is at and ask about Marcus. But Susan doesn’t really recognize Marcus, so she says she’ll let them know if anything comes up.

At home, though, they get caught getting out of the cab instead of getting out of the ice cream place they were expected to go to. Zoe’s grandmother talks to her parents about the letters to Marcus, so Zoe’s mom grounds her and bans her from writing to Marcus. Will Marcus ever get out? Will Zoe actually get in the audition for Kids Baking Championship? Read the book to find out!

This book is rated 5 stars by me. I love the book and its plot! The story is so fascinating, and it’s cool that the main character likes to bake. I recommend this to 11-year-olds and older and people who like heartwarming stories. So, now are you convinced that you should read this book?
