Hello! If you’re wondering what book to read next, you should try this book. It’ll be worth your time and money. Consider reading it after viewing this book recommendation.
Cupcake Diaries: Mia’s Baker Dozen is a book about a girl named Mia who is in the Cupcake Club. She’s a cool person with three best friends and an amazing fashion sense, so what could possibly be wrong with her life? Spanish, that’s what. Because her parents told the school she spoke Spanish, she’s now in the Advanced Spanish class, which is a nightmare.
You might be thinking: If she speaks Spanish, how come her Advanced Spanish class is difficult? Even though she speaks Spanish, Mia doesn’t know how to read or write it. And because her family is Spanish, more pressure is put on her to be great at Spanish. She starts to struggle in class and with her homework while trying to help the Cupcake Club bake cupcakes.
Mia starts to panic when she’s getting bad grades in the subject. She thinks it’s fine and decides not to tell her parents. When there’s suddenly a test coming up, Mia studies her hardest, determined to ace the test! She completes the test and…fails. So her teacher gives her a note for tutors to give to her parents and talks to Mia about it. Mia decides to talk about this to her friends, and Alexis, one of her friends, suggests telling her parents.
But if she tells her parents, what would happen? Would they get mad at her for failing? But Mia soon realizes, after hearing that the teacher-parent conferences are coming up, that she can’t suffer with these grades anymore and blurts it out while hanging out with her dad at dinner. He later tells Mia’s mom, and they discuss about how she can’t keep things secret from them. And Eddie even starts helping Mia with homework!
There’s just one problem that Mia has. When Sydney asks Mia what a boy at school texted her, she accidentally says it means that he cheeses her instead of that he loves her. So she starts getting revenge on him that he doesn’t even deserve for thinking he said what Mia translated incorrectly. And when Mia realizes this, she regrets saying that. She tells all of this to Eddie, and Mia finds herself talking about stuff she never told Mom! (Eddie is her stepdad who she used to not really approve of.) What will happen when Sydney finds out? Will she be angry? Read the book to find out!
This book would be rated 5 stars by me. It’s a great book for girls ages 10-14 and is recommended for readers who love baking and/or middle school stories. So make sure you read this book and the whole series!
