“Lalani of the Distant Sea” Book Review by Kruti!!!

Do you want to read an intriguing book that will never cause you to be bored or disinterested? Do you want to read a book with a wonderful plot and creative imagination? Then you’ve come to the right place. This is a book review about a book called Lalani of the Distant Sea.

Lalani of the Distant Sea is a book about a 12-year-old girl named Lalani. She lives on an island called Sanlagita with her mother, her stepfather, and her stepbrother, Kul. Lalani’s stepfather and stepbrother have been trouble ever since they stepped into the house. They’re always bossing Lalani and her mother to bring things to them. Lalani has a best friend named Veyda, and she always goes to her house and hears Veyda’s mother’s stories. Lalani and Veyda discuss a tale about a girl named Ziva who was a stowaway on a ship and whose hair got cut off when it was keeping her from falling into the ocean.

The two also talk about Mount Kahna and what could happen if you angered it by hiking on its paths. It also frightens Veyda’s 11-year-old brother, Hetsbi. They’re trying to heal Toppi, an ill baby who is three houses down. Toppi is very sick, but Veyda is determined to cure the baby with improbable chances of survival. One day, when Lalani’s mother needs more thread to weave cloth, Lalani goes to get some from Mora Pasa. However, when she’s there, she notices some of the shek escape from the home. Lalani follows those shek up onto Mount Kahna. A monster is about to attack her when someone saves Lalani.

The one who saved Lalani is Ellseth, and he is a mindoren. He has stolen many things from other creatures on Mount Isa, which is a mountain across the ocean. Lalani wished for rain to appear, and a lot of rain did appear. However, it was way too much, so Ellseth thought Lalani was being greedy when coming back and asking for less rain. A few kids from the village who are bullying Hetsbi because of his bad ship craftsmanship glance at Lalani coming down from Mount Kahna, where she isn’t supposed to be. She is blamed for making Mount Kahna angry and for making an avalanche occur, which killed the Pasa family and the menyoro.

Lalani gets punished for doing this, but when her mother’s finger gets pricked and gives her a disease, Lalani has to find a cure. There aren’t really any plants, so she has to cross the ocean to Mount Isa to find a cure. It’s very risky and hazardous since every person that has crossed the ocean to go to Mount Isa has never returned. Maybe Lalani could be the first one to survive. On her journey, she meets many obstacles, creatures, and a mindoren with a backstory of her own. Will Lalani get to Mount Isa in time, or will she, having slim chances of surviving, die along the way? Read the book to find out!

This book is one of the most alluring ones I’ve read. I would rate it 5 stars because of its compelling plot and exotic setting. I also love the cover and the mysterious title. The sensory details make you feel like you’re really there, experiencing the adventure with Lalani. So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and read this stimulating book, Lalani of the Distant Sea!
