“Stargirl” Book Review by Kruti!!!

Do you love great books? Do you love unique ones? Then this is the right book for you!

Stargirl is a book about a boy named Leo who goes to a high school. At this school, everyone is just the same and blends in. One day, a girl named Stargirl comes to the school. She’s totally different! She sings “Happy Birthday” to people on their birthdays and seems to know their names already! (In my opinion in, that’s really creepy. Like, how does she know their names?!)

Stargirl also plays her ukulele, wears unusual clothing, and is the friendliest person Leo has ever met. Hillari Kimble, a girl at the school, thinks Stargirl is a plant and not a real student. Leo and his friend, Kevin, think about this. They also think about putting Stargirl on their show, Hot Seat, to expose her. Stargirl wins a contest, and soon, people start liking her! They cheer for her, and soon, Stargirl becomes a cheerleader. At basketball games, however, not only does she cheer for the school’s team, but other schools’ teams as well.

Others start to not like the way she’s cheering for the opponents as well. The other cheerleaders want her to cheer for their school, not the other schools. Stargirl and Leo start hanging out together, Stargirl shows Leo how to feel like you’re absolutely nothing. Literally. They have fun together and like each other. Leo is suddenly rethinking putting Stargirl on Hot Seat.

Leo knows that if he and Kevin put Stargirl on Hot Seat, the show might be a disaster. And indeed it is. People are questioning Stargirl. Questions like, “Why are you so weird?” and “Why are you so different?” Do you want to know what happens next in this book? Read it to find out!

This is an amazing book, really! Stargirl is my favorite character in this book! Although it does have some cuss words, I think it would be fit for people 12 and up. It’s also fit for people who like romance. Even though I never got to see Stargirl in illustrations, I bet she looks cute the way the author describes her! This book is by Jerry Spinelli. So go ahead and start reading Stargirl!
