Do you like books? Do you like funny tales? Then this is the right book for you!
The Third Mushroom is about a girl named Ellie. It’s been a year since her grandfather, who found a way to make himself young again, came to their house. Now he’s riding buses and traveling around. Exploring. Until one day, when he comes back to Ellie’s house.
Ellie is thought to be responsible enough to be able to stay home by herself. She hears a noise and glass breaking and immediately calls 911. Then, when she realizes it’s her grandfather, she says everything is alright.
Ellie and her grandfather, Melvin, do a science project together. Melvin goes to Ellie’s school and sees Raj, Ellie’s best friend, again. Ellie also has encounters with her old best friend, Brianna. They don’t talk as much as they did before.
One day, Raj asks Ellie to go out to a movie, alone. Just the two of them. Ellie says yes, and when they go to a movie, it just feels weird. Ellie and Raj hold hands for a while. They don’t speak often after the movie. To make things worse, Ellie’s beloved cat, Jonas, gets hurt and, a few days later, dies.
This book is a great and humorous one I read. I recommend it to 9-12 year olds. It has some sad parts, but it also has happy parts. It includes information about famous scientists who made great discoveries that benefit our world and us today. So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and read The Third Mushroom!
