“National Geographic Kids: Amazing Animals” Magazine Summary by Kruti!!!

Do you like animals? Do you like learning about them? Well, then, keep on reading because in this summary, there will be three amazing animals mentioned.

The first animals are seals, seahorses, sharks, and more fish in London. But why such specific names of sea creatures? You’ll see why in a minute. Fish used to live in the Thames River, but ever since 1957 came by and the pollution level was so much in the water, organisms in parts of the river were considered dead. It seemed hopeless to some people, but others decided to keep hope and try to help. Engineers helped create sewers for human waste, and scientists helped treat wastewater before it reached the river. And it even became cleaner than it had been in 150 years! Now, all of the animals listed above have homes again and use the river again as well as people. It’s a great change and a great way to help the environment.

The second animal is a dog, and you won’t believe what he does. One day, Snickers, a blind cat, went missing, and after 3 days, the owners finally had a dog search for the cat. The search was successful, but how can a dog be trained to do this? Aren’t dogs enemies of cats? James Branson, the dog’s, or Komu’s, owner, trained Komu to search for cats. Komu was taught about searching for kitties with his smelling abilities. Turns out, it can actually be pretty useful!

The last animals that will be discussed are chimpanzees. Now, what’s so special about these animals is their healing ways. Researchers did studies about chimpanzees putting an insect (a dead one, of course) on an injury to help it heal. They think that bugs could have antibiotic properties, and those can help by making sure cuts or other injuries don’t get infected or make them less dangerous. It doesn’t really seem normal since we usually use ointment and a bandage, but it could be useful information as well as a little gross. Smart thinking, Chimpandocs.

That is all for this summary. I hope you read the magazine and maybe share this information with your family and friends to share what you know!
