Guvar Nu Shaak Made by Jaimi!!!

Guvar Nu Shaak

Guvar is known as cluster beans. Guvars are famous Indian vegetables and can easily be found in Indian grocery stores. They are smaller, thinner, and have a slightly bitter taste.

Guvar Nu Shaak is a simple Gujarati subzi made with guvar and everyday spices. It can be served warm with roti, bhakri, or poori. Guvar Nu Shaak is often served with rice and dal for a complete meal. I have made Guvar Nu Shaak for the first time using the recipe, and it turned out to be PERFECT!!!

Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups Guvar
  • 4 chopped vine tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp grated garlic
  • 3 tbsp sunflower oil
  • 2 dry Kashmiri red chilies
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Kashmiri red chili powder
  • 1 tbsp Turbinado sugar
  • salt to taste
  • cilantro leaves for garnish

How to make Guvar Nu Shaak using the following recipe:

  1. Wash guvar.  Cut the head and tail of the guvars(top and bottom parts) and discard them.
  2. Cut all guvars into half.
  3. Heat the oil in a pan; add mustard seeds and cumin seeds.  Next, add red chilies and garlic.
  4. Saute for about 30 seconds.  Now add guvar and fry them on low flame for 7 to 10 minutes with the lid covered.  Stir occasionally.
  5. Add turmeric powder and salt and mix well.
  6. Now add tomatoes and cook for about 8 to 10 minutes until the tomato is soft.  Stir occasionally.
  7. Add sugar and Kashmiri red chili powder.  Stir and cook it for about 2 to 3 minutes with the lid covered.
  8. Finally, garnish it with cilantro leaves and serve.
