“National Geographic Kids: Guinness World Records” Magazine Summary by Kruti!!!

Have you ever thrown a washing machine? Or perhaps, surfed a huge wave? Three Guinness World Records are held by three people or animals. Find out more about these records by reading on!

The first one is about a female surfer who holds the record for being the woman to surf the largest wave. She caught a ride on a 73 foot, 6 inch wave at a beach in Portugal called Praia do Norte. It’s well-known for having massive waves, so no wonder she surfed there! The wave was literally the same height as a 7-story building! Because I’m frightened by tall heights, I would immediately back out. Maya Gabeira, the daredevil surfer, is truly gallant to be able to ride that huge wave in Portugal.

The second Guinness World Record goes to Sonic the Hedgehog’s twin, Macho the Jack Russell terrier. He’s the record holder for the fastest time for a dog to run all four baseball bases! In fact, Macho did this in 21 seconds! Balloons were added on bases to help guide the terrier to his destinations each step of the way. This dog clearly has speed! Too bad he can’t really hold a bat that well and hit a ball in baseball. He’d be a great player in Dog Baseball, if that exists.

The last one is for tossing a washing machine. It’s odd and strange, but still impressive. Johan Espenkrona accomplished this record. He set the record for the farthest washing-machine throw! Johan threw a washing-machine, which is nearly one hundred pounds, 15 feet midair! He even outflung Kelvin de Ruiter, who was the record holder for the fastest time to flip a car five times. Johan is truly a remarkable guy, and he seems like the type of person who would rage at his washing machine by throwing it.

These are three fascinating Guinness World Records. There are, of course, many more that were completed. You can find them in the official Book of Guinness World Records if you want to see more. The records shown here shocked me and were accomplished by daring and talented people and animals.
