Do you love adventurous books? Do you love comic strips? Then this is the right book for you!
Flora and Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures is a book that’s about a girl named Flora Belle Buckman. Flora lives with her mother, a romance novelist. Flora is a natural-born cynic, and her father went away from their home to live somewhere else. Well, at least he came to visit! One day, Flora sees a vacuum cleaner that’s totally out of control! She spots a squirrel about to get sucked into the machine! Too late. Sorry, Flora, but it got sucked into the machine. It must be dead! But it wasn’t. Flora actually breathed into the squirrel’s mouth to make him alive, and guess what happened next? The squirrel was alive, yes, but then, it carried the vacuum cleaner with its tiny hands!
Flora smuggled the squirrel inside her house and named it Ulysses. She thought that the squirrel was a superhero and taught Ulysses all about the great fantasy superhero Incandesto. Ulysses did many great things in this book, from typing poems to actually flying in the air! Slowly making Flora’s cynical attitude evaporate, Ulysses gives the whole Buckman family a surprise in the end of the book to show how much the squirrel cares about Flora. If you want to read the beautiful poem he wrote, find out what it said in the book!
This book is lovely and was put together amazingly by the best-selling author Kate DiCamillo. Telling another one of her fascinating tales, Kate whips up a great mix for the cake (the book). In conclusion, this “cake” is sweet and delicious, and if you’re hungry for a delectable slice with both chapters and mini comic strips, then check this book out at the library and start reading it right away!
