Do you love sad, yet heartwarming stories? Then this is a great tale for you!
Louisiana’s Way Home is about a girl named Louisiana Elefante. She lives with Granny because…well, all she knows about her parents is that they were famous trapeze artists. She has a curse on her head. A curse of sundering. Just in case you don’t know what sundering means, it is defined as “tear apart”. Granny has driven Louisiana away from home a lot of times, and they drive back home. But this time, when Louisiana is taken in the car and Granny drives them away from home, she realizes they’re never coming back.
After a few twists and turns, they arrive at a hotel. Louisiana earns the money to pay for the fee by singing at a funeral. She meets a boy named Burke, whose mother makes the most delicious cakes! You’d probably want to eat them every. Single. Day. And you’d probably never get bored of it! Anyways, Louisiana tells about her life to Burke. She seeks advice from someone at a church, thinking that he might be able to undo the curse. However, he can’t. He gives good advice, though.
One night, Louisiana brings Granny sandwiches at the hotel. She sees a letter and no Granny. Reading the letter makes her feel depressed. Why? She finds out that she never HAD parents that were trapeze artists! And that she isn’t related to Granny at all! Granny was just a random woman who picked Louisiana up in the alley. Now Louisiana can’t even figure out who she is. Who is she?
This is an amazing book written by Kate DiCamillo. It nearly brought me to tears! She has a way of writing beautiful stories! It’s really a natural talent. I mean, who wouldn’t want to read this book? So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and read Louisiana’s Way Home!
